Speaker of the Shura receives official of religious Commission

Makkah, August 26

Dr Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of the Shura (Consultative) Council, met here today Director

 General of the branch of the Commission of promotion of virtue and prevention of vice in

 Makkah region Sheikh Ahmad al-Ghamdi and members of the branch.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bin Humaid said the Saudi leadership has been giving a great

 attention to the Commission because the foundation of the rule in the Kingdom is based on

 promotion of virtue and prevention of vice.


He highlighted the important role of the personnel of the Commission.


Dr Bin Humaid expressed happiness for the great attention being given by the Commission's

 presidency to the training programs for its personnel.


He noted that the Shura Council appreciates the activities of the Commission.


Focal Points of International Conference on Dialogue 2 Madrid

The second session to be held on Thursday will be under the theme (Dialogue and Its

 Importance in Human Society). It will be chaired by Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Humaid,

 Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


During the session, Rev. Nichiko Niwano, President of Japan Committee in World Parliament

 for Religion and Peace will talk about Dialogue and Interaction of Cultures and Civilizations

 and Prof. Federico Mayor Zaragoza, President of Cultural Foundation for Peace, who is a

 Member of European Parliament of Spain, will talk about Dialogue and Its Impact on Peaceful

 Coexistence. Also, Dr. Abdulhadi Tazi, Member of Moroccan Academy, will talk about

 Dialogue and Its Impact on International Relations. After that, Dr. Redwan Naef Al-Sayyed,

 Chairman of International Institute for Islamic Studies in Lebanon will talk about Dialogue in

 the Face of Calls for Clash of Civilization and End of History.


The third session will discuss the theme (Common Human Values in Areas of Dialogue). It will

 be chaired by Dr. William F. Vendley Secretary General of World Conference of Religions for

 Peace.


During the session, Dr. Nihad Awad, Executive Director of Council on American-Islamic

 Relations (CAIR), will talk about Ethical Reality in Contemporary Human Society. Also,

 Sheikh Muhammad Ali Taskheeri, Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic

 Schools of Thought, will talk about Significance of Religion and Values in Combating Crimes,

 Drugs and Corruption. For his part, Shankaracharya Omkar Anand Saraswati Ji Maharaj,

 Leader of Sanatan Dharm in India, will talk about Role of Religion and Family in Stability of

 Society. After that, Rev. Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, Rector of Pontifical Council for Inter-

Religious Dialogue in Vatican, will talk about Protection of Environment as a Common Human

 Duty.


Speaker of Mjlis Ash Shura leaves for Spain

Riyadh, July 12

Speaker of Mjlis Ash Shura Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid will participate at the

 World Conference on Dialogue which will take place in the Spanish capital Madrid on

 Wednesday, under the patronization of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King

 Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and comes in response to an invitation by the Custodian of the Two

 Holy Mosques for dialogue.


Sheikh Dr. bin Humaid will chair a panel on dialogue and its importance in human society

 during the conference which lasts for three days.


In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Speaker of Mjlis Ash Shura noted that the

 conference was timely held in the current world of cracks and differences and religious and

 sectarian conflicts.


He said, "The dialogue is the best solution and more beneficial to get an accepted formula and

 that the world urgently need the dialogue so as to avoid wars and strife that impede

 understanding and progress and familiarity among the peoples of the world".


He commended the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin

 Abdulaziz for the dialogue between the followers of the religions, saying that the "initiative of

 the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, not surprising since King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz

 seeks and calls for peace and supports dialogue. The Kingdom under his leadership always

 sought to security, peace and a pioneer in this area".


He added "what the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques does (comes or stems) from the

 feeling of responsibility towards his religion, country and the whole world", describing the

 initiative on a dialogue of religions, "as the first of its kind which will enhance the partnership of

 humanity and stresses the use of the language of dialogue with respect of heavenly religions".


He called on the (gathering or conferees) to come out with "positive outcomes to serve the

 people and humanity as the world awaits the findings and recommendations that will come out

 of this major international conference", expressing thanks and appreciation to the Government

 and the friendly people of Spain to embrace this important conference.


Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura visits SABIC Corporation

Riyadh, July 09

Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Humaid Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura, and a delegation of the

 Council have visited Saudi Basic Industries Corporation.


Upon arrival to the venue, they were received by Prince Saud bin Thenayan Al Saud,

 Chairman of Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu and who is Chairman of Board of

 Directors of SABIC, Saud Al-Madhy Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SABIC

 and a number of senior official of the corporation.


Prince Saud bin Thenayan Al Saud welcomed the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura and the

 accompanying delegation and praised the Council and its achievements.


After that, he delivered a speech in which he talked about SABIC Corporation and its strategic

 plans and future investments.


Then, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura and the accompanying delegation toured the permanent

 exhibition and watched a presentation about the corporation and its continual efforts of

 industrial and social investment.


Majlis Ash Shura delegation visits U.S. congress and a number of civil society institutions

Washington, June 17

Majlis Ash Shura delegation, currently visiting the U.S., today paid visits to New America

 Foundation, Strategic and International Studies Center and Middle East Institute to confer with

 officials and researchers there.


During the conversations, bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the

 U.S. were reviewed as well as other issues of mutual concern.


Earlier, the delegation dropped at the U.S. congress and met with a number of its members.

 They discussed ways of cooperation between the two chambers.


Secretary -General of Majlis Ash Shura takes Oath before King

 Jeddah, June 30

The new Secretary General of Majlis Ash Shura Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed

 Al-Ghamdi took the oath here today before the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King

 Abdullah bin Abdulaziz following a royal order appointing Dr. Al-Ghamdi as General

 Secretary of Majlis Ash Shura in the excellent rank.


The King congratulated the General Secretary of Majlis Ash Shura on this assignment, wishing

 him every success in the service his religion and homeland.


For his part, the General Secretary of Majlis Ash Shura thanked the King for the royal

 confidence bestowed upon him, hoping to carry out his duties to the trust of the prudent

 leadership on him.


The audience was attended by Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier,

 Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General; Prince Met'teb bin Abdulaziz,

 Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs; Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior; Prince

 Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Interior Minister; Dr. Salih bin Homaid, Chairman of the Shoura

 Council;


Majlis Ash Shura delegation meets with French officials

Paris, June 30

A delegation of members of the Saudi French parliamentary friendship Committee, an affiliate

 of Majlis Ash Shura of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al-

Manie, met here today with the Minister of State at the French Foreign Ministry for Foreign

 Affairs Rama Yad within the framework of the official visit by the delegation to the French

 Republic at the invitation of the French National Assembly.


During the meeting, the overall issues of common interest between the two countries, especially

 parliamentary relations were reviewed.


Later, the delegation held a meeting with Assistant Director-General of the International

 Relations at the Department of European and International Relations and Cooperation at the

 Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mark Rowland.


During the meeting, they discussed topics of common concern, particularly as regards

 cooperation in education and scientific research as well as the academic conditions of students

 on scholarships in France.


Majlis Ash Shura Speaker concludes visit to Portugal

Lisbon, June 28

 Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Humaid, President of Majlis Ash Shura concluded here today an

 official visit to Portugal as part of two nation European tour that included also Iceland, upon

 invitations from Speakers of the two countries' parliaments.


Dr Bin Humaid described the visit as "successful" and said it achieved the expected goals.


In a statement to SPA, Bin Humaid said "We have discussed with friends in Iceland and

 Portugal, the overall bilateral relations in all spheres of political, economic, investment, social,

 educational spheres.


Moreover, the discussions also covered means of enhancing these relations for the interests of

 the people Saudi Arabia, Portugal and Iceland."


Majlis Ash Shura Council Speaker to visit Portugal

Riyadh, June 24

Dr Sheikh Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura Council, will start tomorrow an

 official visit to Portugal.


He is scheduled to meet with a number of Portuguese officials and parliamentarians.


Sheikh Dr Bin Humaid ended earlier today a 3-day official visit to Iceland.


In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), he highlighted the positive outcome of his visit to

 Iceland and said it would contribute to further cementing relations between the Kingdom and

 Iceland.


Dr Bin Humaid said the Majlis Ash Shura Council is keen on developing its relations with the

 parliaments of the fraternal and friendly countries so as to benefit from their experiences.


He noted that Majlis Ash Shura Council is a member of several regional and international

 parliamentary federations.


Dr bin Humaid is accompanied by a delegation comprising Dr Ayed al-Raddadi; Dr Abdullah

 Al-Dosari; Dr Salih Al-Dosari, Dr Abdel-Jalil Al-Seif and a number of officials.


Majlis Ash Shura new Secretary General Appointed

Jeddah, June 22

A royal order issued here today, appointing Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohamed Al-

Ghamdi as Secretary General of Majlis Ash Shura in the excellent rank.


The statement, issued by the royal court, instructed the authorities concerned to implement the

 order with immediate effect.


Nancy Pelosi receives Majlis Ash Shura Delegation

Washington, June 21

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives received here last night

 the visiting delegation of Majlis Ash Shura led by Dr Bandar Al-Eiban.


A number of the US congressmen participated in the meeting.


Dr Al-Eiban conveyed to the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the

 greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown

 Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Premier, Defense and Aviation Minister and Inspector

 General, as well as Dr Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura.


Majlis Ash Shura's delegation reiterated keenness on further cementing friendly relations with

 the US Congress in a manner that serves mutual interest.


On her part, Pelosi welcomed the delegation and highlighted the outcome of her historical visit

 to Saudi Arabia last year and expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to her

 in the Kingdom.


She asked the delegation to convey her greetings to King Abdullah and his Crown Prince

 Sultan bin Abdulaziz as well as the Chairman of Majlis Ash Shura.


During the reception, the delegation exchanged views with Pelosi on a number of topics

 including the Arab-Israeli dispute, the situation in Iraq, as well as means of fighting terrorism,

 the price of petroleum and the economic situation in the Kingdom.


Saudi ambassador hosts luncheon for Shura Delegation

Washington, June 18

Saudi ambassador to the United States Adel bin Ahmad al-Jubeir hosted here yesterday a

 luncheon in honor of the visiting delegation of Majlis Ash Shura.


The party was attended by a number of officials.


The delegation visited yesterday the US Congress, and it was briefed on the role of the

 National Homeland Security Committee.


It also held a meeting with Executive Director of US National Conference of State Legislators

 (NCSL) William T. Pound as well as with U.S. congressman (Democrat) from Georgia David

 Scott.


During the meetings, issues as regards prospects of enhancing bilateral cooperation came up for

 discussion.


The delegation includes Dr Bandar Al-Eiban, the Head of the Saudi-American Parliamentary

 Friendship Committee, Eng. Osama Kurdi; Yousef Al-Maimani; Dr Khalid Al-Awad, Dr

 Nihad Al-Jashi, the advisor at Majlis Ash Shura, and other officials.

The Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura receives Prince Mansour

Riyadh, June 9

Dr Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura , received here today Prince Mansour

 bin Khalid Al-Farmhand Al-Saud, on the occasion of appointing him as the Saudi ambassador

 to Austria.


He congratulated him on this Royal confidence, and hoped that he would perform his mission

 successfully.


They reviewed issues of mutual interest notably aspects of cooperation between the Shura

 Council and the Embassy.


Speaker  of Majlis Ash Shura receives Dutch Delegation

Riyadh, June 07

Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid, Speaker  of Majlis Ash Shura received here today the

 delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch parliament currently visiting Kingdom

 of Saudi Arabia.


During the meeting, they discussed a number of topics of common interest and ways of

 enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the field of parliamentary action.


The meeting was attended by a number of officials.


Also, the Chairman of the Dutch-Saudi Friendship Parliamentary Committee of Majlis Ash

 Shura, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Abu Melha met the Dutch Parliamentary delegation here today.


During the meeting, they reviewed ties between Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands

 as well as the parliamentary relations between Majlis Ash Shura and the Dutch Parliament and

 the activation of the Parliamentary Friendship Committees of the two countries.


The Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura receives U.S. Official

Riyadh, June 07

Dr Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura, received here today U.S. Assistant

 under secretary for democratic affairs, labor, women, and human rights Erika Barex.


They reviewed a number of political, economic, educational, social investment topics, notably

 topics pertaining to parliamentary relations between Majlis Ash Shura and the US Congress.


They also discussed bilateral relations in the parliamentary field.


The two sides underlined the importance of further developing bilateral relations due to the

 regional and international significance of the two countries.


The meeting was attended by number officials.


Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura  receives Dr. Al-Sheddi

Riyadh, June 03

DR Salih bin Humaid, the Chairman of the Shura (Consultative) Council, received here today

 Dr Adel Al-Sheddi, the Secretary General of the Global program to introduce the Prophet of

 Mercy (Prophet Mohammad - PBUH).


Dr Bin Humaid hailed the role being played by the program in shedding light on the Prophet

 (PBUH).


Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura receives Tunisian & Czech Parliamentarians

Riyadh, June 02

Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Humaid, Speaker of Shura (Consultative) Council received here

 today Khyarah Al-Agha, Member of Tunisian Parliament and Head of African-Arab

 Parliamentarian Forum on Population and Development.


During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.


Meanwhile, the Tunisian Parliamentarian attended today a session of Shura (Consultative)

 Council accompanied by Tunisian Ambassador to the Kingdom Najeeb Al-Muneef.


On other hand, Dr. bin Humaid received later today Senator Karel Bartak, Head of Senate of

 the Parliament of the Czech Republic Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Human

 Rights and Petition.


During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.


Dr Bin Humaid highlights significance of  Majlis Ash Shura

Makkah, May 28

Dr Salih bin Humaid, the Speaker of the Majlis Ash Shura, said the Saudi ruling system has

 been stemming from the Islamic shariah.


In an address before personnel of Ummal Qura University here last night, he said the ruler in

 the Kingdom is responsible for applying Islamic rules in all domains.


He noted that Shura is one of the principles of Islam and it is stipulated in the Kingdom's basic

 ruling system.
On the relation of the Shura with democracy, he said "At this time, when voices are raised for

 spreading democracy on the basis that democracy is the way for the development of the

 nations and defeating backwardness, relation between Shura and democracy should not be

 taken as ties of accord or contradiction."

 

Citing the stages of Shura in the Kingdom, he said it started in 1343 AH, and its second stage

 began in 1344 AH, and the Shura council was established in 1345 AH.


He pointed out that the new system was issued in 1412 AH and it was an important

 development because it matched the aspirations of the citizens and leadership.


Dr Bin Humaid said the Shura, which includes 12 committees, holds two sessions per week.


He noted that the decisions of the Shura are submitted to the Custodian of the Two Holy

 Mosques.


Dr Bin Humaid noted that the Shura was a major partner in the development and organizational

 process witnessed by the Kingdom in the recent years because it had studied several systems

 and statutes.


Dr. Bin Humaid disclosed that the Shura has joined so many unions and federations and

 parliamentary forums, and participated in several Arab, Islamic and international conferences

 and meetings.


He noted that the Shura has joined the federation of the councils of the member states of the

 Organization of Islamic Conference; the Arab parliamentary federation; the Asian

 parliamentary federation for peace; the forum of Africa and the Arab world; the international

 parliamentarians' federation; the international parliamentary federation, and other similar

 organizations.


Shura Council Speaker receives US Congress delegation

Riyadh, May 27

Shura Council Speaker Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid received here today a delegation of

 US Congress members led by Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources Nick Rahall.


During the meeting, they exchanged cordial talks and discussed bilateral relations between the

 two friendly countries in political, economic, social and investment fields, especially

 parliamentary relations.


They also discussed urgent issues at regional and international arenas, including the Palestinian

 issue, Iraq and Lebanon.


The meeting was attended by Shura Council Member Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Hilwah;

 US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ford Fraker; and senior officials at the US

 Embassy in the Kingdom.


Shura Council holds session

Riyadh, May 26

The Shura Council held here today a regular session presided over by the chairman of the

 council Sheikh Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid.


In a statement following the session, Assistant Secretary General of the council Ahmad Alyahya

 said that during the session the council continued its deliberations on the four drafts, the real

 estate finance regulation, finance companies' control regulation, leasing finance regulation and

 the registered real estate mortgage regulation.


Alyahya said the council completed its deliberations on the first regulation and then moved to

 the discussion of the 41-article finance companies' control regulation.


Alyahya added that the council will continue discussion of the remainder of the articles of the

 finance companies' control regulation in a future session and then will move to discuss the other

 regulations.


Assistant Speaker of Shura Council Receives U.S Delegation

Riyadh, May 25

Assistant Speaker of Shura Council Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Barak received here

 today a delegation of senior presidents and advisors of U.S. Congress Commission currently

 on a visit to the Kingdom.


During the meeting, Dr. Al-Barak stressed strong relations binding the Kingdom and the United

 States of America in various political and economic fields particularly joint cooperation at the

 level of parliamentary action.


They also discussed issues and topics of common interest between the two countries at regional

 and international arenas in addition to ways of enhancing parliamentary cooperation between

 the two countries.


Shura Council Speaker receives Indian Senator

Riyadh, May 21

Shura Council Speaker Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid received here today Indian Senator

 and honorary president of the United Nations-affiliated International Parliamentary Federation

 Dr. Najmah HibtaAlrahman.


During the meeting, they exchanged cordial talks and discussed cooperation in the

 parliamentary field and issues of common interest.
