Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, arrived in Uganda, today to lead his country's delegation to the 6th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Member Parities of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) scheduled to start here tomorrow.
Secretary General of OIC Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of Arab League Amr Mousa, and representatives of 57 parliaments and chambers will take part in the two-day event.
At Entebbe International Airport, Al Al-Sheikh was received by Ugandan Parliament Speaker Edward Kiwanoka Sikandi, Saudi Ambassador to Uganda Ahmed Al-Bahlal and a number of officials.
Later, Al Al-Sheikh attended a dinner party held in his honor and the accompanying delegation by the Saudi ambassador to Uganda. The event was attended by a number of senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Uganda.

The Committee for Security Affairs, an affiliate of the Shura Council, resumed here today its deliberations on a bill to organize Saudis marriage to non-Saudis. The Head of the Committee Major General Muhammad bin Faisal Abu Saq presided over the session, which was attended by representatives of Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs and Social Affairs.
The core issue in the bill is to guarantee the rights of both sides, the Saudis and the non-Saudis, and rights of their children. The committee will eventually submit its final report to general assembly within Shura Council.

Concluding its 2nd session here today, the Transitional Arab Parliament condemned the sinful attacks against the sovereignty and territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Having reviewed the Shura Council decision No. (42/30) dated 15/06/1430H., the Cabinet approved the Kingdom's accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty and its regulations of the World Intellectual Property Organization, concluded in Washington on 19/06/1970; amended on 28/09/1979, 30/02/1984 and 30/10/2001; and enforced 01/04/2002. The Cabinet also approved the Kingdom's accession to the Patent Law Treaty and its regulations adopted by the Diplomatic Conference on 01/06/2000.
The Cabinet approved a number of appointments as follows:

The Speaker of Shura Councils and Parliaments in member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) wrapped up their two-day meetings here on Monday and issued their final communiqué.
The communiqué reviewed the items discussed and approved which included the approval of the regulatory guidelines of the parliamentary and foreign relations coordination committee; review of a memo on 2009 activities by the GCC Secretariat; a report by Oman on its presidency over the previous session and activities during that period, as well as other issues of concern to the GCC countries, according to a report of KUNA.
The heads of delegations expressed hope the 30th GCC summit, due in Kuwait in mid December, would prove fruitful, and also expressed gratitude to Emir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for the invitations to attend the summit.
The participants also expressed gratitude to Kuwait Parliament Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi over the hospitality and good reception during their meetings, which contributed to the positive atmosphere of all sessions, according to the communiqué.

Saudi Permanent Representative to United Nations European Union headquarters in Geneva Dr. Abdulwahab Attar held here today a lunch party in honor of visiting Majlis Ash Shura delegation, led by the council"s Secretary General Dr. Mohammed in Abdullah Al-Ghamdi.
The banquet was also attended by a number of officials in the United Nations Geneva office.

With the participation of a delegation from the Majlis Ash Shura of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by the Secretary General of the Council, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi and 153 parliaments of various countries all over the world, the 121st general meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) concluded its activity here today.
Upon conclusion, the meeting adopted the emergency item submitted by Uganda on behalf of the African Group on the parliamentary action to achieve the world food security and also re-nominated Anders Johnson, the General Secretary of the IPU Council for the next four years after wining a majority of votes.
At the open international symposium held today by the IPU on the fight against AIDS globally, Dr. Maha Al-Maneef, adviser to the Saudi Majlis Ash Shura delivered a speech in which she manifested the efforts of the Kingdom in the fight against the disease of AIDS.

The member of the Saudi Arabian Majlis Ash Shura Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Sustainable Development, Trade and Finance in the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the success of the next Copenhagen Conference.

He condemned the treacherous terrorist bombing attempt against Prince Mohammad bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs.
The council praised the preventive measures by the state to fight the swine influenza pandemic and efforts to serve Umrah performers.
Majlis Ash Shura approved proposed amendments of the World Monetary Fund Agreement and a decision concerning a long-term strategy on the issues of Hajj and Umrah.
The council approved annual reports of the Control and Investigation Bureau and the Ministry of Education.

The Commission also noted the attention given by Majlis Ash Shura to the problems of human rights.
It also hailed the attention of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to enable women to positively contribute to the political, economic and social development of the country.
It noted that a Saudi woman is now occupying the portfolio of Deputy Education Minister for girls in addition to the participation of some women in the management of chambers of commerce and several governmental and non-governmental sectors.
The Commission said the Kingdom is keen on joining regional and international agreements which are concerned with human rights provided that these agreements don't contravene with the Islamic Shariah.
For example the Kingdom has joined the declaration of Cairo 'Human rights in Islam', issued by the Islamic Foreign Ministers in 1990 as well as Cairo declaration for spreading culture of human rights in 2000 in addition to Riyadh declaration for human rights in 2003 and the Arab convention for human rights in 2004, and rights of children in Islam for 2005.

Saudi Shura Council member Dr. Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al-Khayal called on the major industrialized countries to address the problem of dangerous gases resulting from the process of global warming and climate changes, by supporting clean industries which do not affect the human health and safety.

Majlis Ash Shura Speaker Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Ibrahim Al Alsheikh has announced the issuance of the royal approval of determining the mechanisms of cooperation and integration between the council and the regions; councils and the organization of periodic meetings between them in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
The chairman considered the issuance of the order as an opportunity for establishing ideal relations between Majlis Ash Shura and the 13 regions; councils.
The chairman said the council formed a committee chaired by Secretary General of Majlis Ash Shura Dr. Mohammad bin Abdullah Alghamdi and the membership of a number of the council to study and determine the mechanisms of cooperation and integration between the council and the regions; councils, set a program for visits and determine their nature and bases and areas of cooperation in agreement with the Ministry of Interior.

Majlis Ash Shura delegation headed by the Speaker Sheikh Dr.Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh concluded a visit to Moscow today.
The visit of Majlis Ash Shura delegation was in response to an invitation of President of Russian Federation Council Sergei Mironov. During the visit, the delegation discussed with Russian officials aspects of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially Saudi-Russian parliamentary relations.

The meeting came as a part of the current visit of Dr. bin Homaid to Malaysia.
During the audience, the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament welcomed Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura and the accompanying delegation, noting the bilateral relationship between the Kingdom and Malaysia on one hand and Majlis Ash Shura and the Malaysian Parliament on the other.
In a speech on the occasion, bin Homaid emphasized the distinguished deep-rooted bilateral relationship binding the two countries, considering the mutual visits by the leaderships of the two countries is yet another proof of the distinguished relation binding the two countries.

Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura Dr. Salih bin Abdullah Bin Homaid met here today with Saudi students studying in Malaysia.

Majlis Ash Shura Speaker meets with Saudi students in Australia
Melbourne, November 28
Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid met at his guest residence in the Australian city of Melbourne with Saudi students on scholarships in Australia.
The Saudi ambassador to Australia talaat bin Hasan Nazer was present in the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, bin Homaid advised the students to adhere to Islamic teachings to reflect a good profile about the Saudi people.
Later, bin Homaid visited the Islamic Center in Melbourne and was briefed on the services rendered by the facility to the Islamic community in the city.
On the other hand, the Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura met at his residence in Melbourne with Australia's Mufti Sheikh Fahmi Al-Imam who briefed him on the activities practiced in the center.
For his part, bin Homaid called on the Islamic societies in Australia to further spread the correct Islamic culture among Muslims, urging for becoming good examples among the Australian people.

A delegation from Majlis Ash Shura is participating in the 3-day workshop. The delegation is composed of Hamza Al-Juhani, Dr Abdulrahman Al-Tamimi and a number of officials.
The workshop will focus on means of developing the capabilities of the Arab parliamentarians in the field of dialogue as well as issues pertaining to the international conference on housing and the millenary goals for development, due to be held soon.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia Harry Jenkins and Senator John Hogg received at the Australian Parliament here today the Chairman of Saudi Majlis Ash Shura Speaker Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid currently visiting Australia.
During the meeting, the Australian officials hailed the bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, particularly the parliamentary relations.
On his part, Dr. Saleh said that the invitation he received to visit Australia will contribute to enhancing the relations between the Majlis Ash Shura and the Australian Parliament.
The meeting was attended by a number of Australian Parliament members and Majlis Ash Shura members and Saudi Ambassador to Australia Hassan Talaat bin Nazir.

In turn, the Governor expressed appreciation of the Kingdom's role to support development in poor countries.
Bashir commended the bilateral relations between the two countries, calling for further cooperation in various fields.

Singaporean President and senior Minister at the PM's office separately receive Majlis Ash Shura delegation
Singapore, November 21
President of Singapore S. R. Nathan has lauded the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud calling for dialogue among followers of religions and cultures, referring to New York high-level meeting on peace of culture which was recently held upon invitation of the king.
During a meeting with visiting Majlis Ash Shura Speaker Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid, he hailed the bilateral relations binding the two countries.
Bin Homaid conveyed to the president the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Vice-Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Singaporean people, wishing Singapore and its people steady progress and prosperity.
For his part, bin Homaid lauded the bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, bilateral ties and ways of enhancing them were discussed.
Later, bin Homaid met with the Singaporean Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's office Goh Chok Tong who praised the King's initiative on dialogue among followers of religions and cultures.

Visiting Majlis Ash Shura Speaker Sheikh Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid met here today with Singaporean parliament's speaker Abdullah Altarmooji.
During the meeting, they discussed Saudi-Singaporean relations especially cooperation between the Shura Council and the Singaporean parliament.
The Singaporean parliament's speaker held a luncheon for the Shura Council Speaker and the accompanying delegation.
The Shura Council Speaker, who arrived here earlier today on an official visit to Singapore, visited the Ministry of Education in Singapore and was briefed on education there.

The Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid received here today German Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom Volkmar Wenzel.
Dr. bin Homaid welcomed the German Ambassador, wishing him all success.
During the meeting, they discussed overall topics and issues of concern, particularly with regard to the upcoming economic summit meeting of Group of 20, and the dialogue between the followers of religions and cooperation for peace, which was called for by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has expressed appreciation for the efforts exerted by Majlis Ash Shura.
In a cable of reply to Speaker of Majlis Ash Shura Dr Salih bin Abdullah bin Humaid, the King, after reading Majlis Ash Shura Council's latest annual report, expressed appreciation for the heartfelt feelings spelled out by the Speaker and the Council's members.
The annual report includes the Majlis Ash Shura's activities and achievements.

Majlis Ash Shura Speaker Dr. Salih bin Homaid opened here today the 6th meeting of the Arab-Japanese Dialogue Forum.
A speech ceremony was held on the occasion in which speakers highlighted support by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for dialogue and focused on the importance of dialogue in general and between the Arab peoples and the Japanese people in particular.
Following the speeches, the meeting discussed three working papers on the themes of the meeting.

Majlis Ash Shura holds ordinary session
RIYADH, November 02
Presided over by its Speaker Sheikh Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid, the Shura Council held its ordinary 50th session in Riyadh today.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency following the session, Secretary General of the Shura Council Dr. Mohammad Alghamdi said the council approved the amendment of three memorandums of understanding in the field of air transport services between Saudi Arabia and three countries, India, Nigeria and Iran.
The council also approved an agreement to promote and protect investment between Saudi Arabia and Sweden.

Majlis Ash Shura participates in meeting of Arab Group in International Parliamentary Union
Geneva, October 12
A Shura delegation participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Group of International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to support the adoption of amendments to be undertaken by the IPU Council to ensure a permanent seat for Palestine in the Union.
The Arab Group also agreed to nominate Rashid Mohammed Khalfan Al-Sharifi from the United Arab Emirates to replace the representative of the Arab group in the Executive Committee of the International Parliamentary Union Abdulwahid Al-Radhi of the Moroccan parliament.
The meeting discussed the emergency item submitted by the United Arab Emirates and Egypt to address the global financial crisis. The Arab Group agreed to support this item to be on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Union.
The Shura Council delegation participating in the meeting consists of the Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi and a number of members and advisors of Shura Council.

Shura to participate in meeting of Arab parliamentary union

A Shura delegation, led by Dr Fihad al-Hamad, the member of the Shura, will participate in the first meeting for the executive committee of the Arab parliamentary union as well as the joint meeting of the union's legal committee and the secretaries general of the councils and parliamentarians.
Dr al-Hamad will be accompanied at the meetings due to be opened tomorrow, by Ahmad al- Yahya, the Shura's assistant secretary general, Fahd bin Shalhoub, the official of protocols and relations, and Hisham al-Faris and Salih al-Khayem, from the office of the parliamentary relations at the Shura.
The participants of the meetings are scheduled to review a number of issues of mutual interest.

Shura Council holds Session
Riyadh, May 12
The Shura Council held here today its 18th ordinary session presided over by the council's chairman Dr. Salih bin Abdullah bin Homaid.
During the session, Dr. Salih stressed that the annual speech delivered by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz at the opening of works of the fourth year of the fourth session on Saturday 7/3/1429 H received the attention of the Council; government agencies; local, regional and international media; and political observers and analysts due to its transparency and clarity.
The presidency of the Council called on the committees and members to work according to the speech and to prepare frameworks for it .The annual speech included important points considered as a working strategy and commitment for the future at the national, regional and international level including the King's appreciation for the performance of the Council and its role; constructive criticism contributes to establishing truth; political stability essential to maintaining the entity of the state, achieving development and protecting achievements; the issuance of the allegiance-pledge system and its executive board; the formation of allegiance- pledge commission; modernization of the systems of justice and Grievances Court; improvement of existing infrastructure projects; increase in job opportunities for citizens; raising the standards of living; development of public and university education and training sector; and emphasis on tackling any problem emerging in Saudi society.

Shura Chief receives Saudi Envoys to Oman and Nigeria

Chairman of the Shura (Consultative) Council Dr Salih bin Humeid received here today Abdulaziz bin Suleiman Al-Turki and Khalid Omar Abdu Rabbu, Saudi ambassadors designate to Oman and Nigeria respectively.
He urged the ambassadors to work for enhancing the Kingdom's relations with the two countries.

Saudi Shura members participate in WTO Forum in UAE
Abu Dhabi, May 07
A number of members of Saudi Shura (Consultative) Council led by Abdullah bin Saeed Abu Melhah participated in a workshop directed towards Arab parliamentarians on WTO Agreements at Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
Other Arab Parliaments' members also participated in the Forum in addition to experts from WTO and AMF.

The Saudi-Spanish Parliamentary Friendship Committee at the Shura (Consultative) Council held here today a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Waleed Arab Hashim, the head of the Committee and the Spanish ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Manuel Alabart.
They reviewed issues pertaining to bilateral relations, notably the parliamentary relations between the Shura and the Spanish parliament.
