Shura Council Speaker at IPU: Saudi Arabia Has the Right to Defend Citizens, Territories against Houthi Attacks

Speaker of the Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, out of its status and pioneering role under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has placed much attention to contribute to curbing the implications of the climate change, where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during its presidency of the G20 in 2020, stressed the importance of protecting earth.*This was made during Al Al-Sheikh's speech at the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in its 144th session currently held in Bali, Indonesia, held under the theme: " the theme of Getting to zero: Mobilizing parliaments to act on climate change", with the participation of a Shura Council delegation headed by Dr. Al Al-Sheikh.*He stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is committed to the climate change's agreement and works side by side with the international community to push forward efforts of combating climate change, noting that His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has launched the Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative that received regional and international approval due to the fact that they represent a roadmap to reduce carbon emissions in the region by more than 10% of global contributions.*During his speech, he said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia renews its commitment to the political solution to the situations in Yemen based on the three references, noting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in March offered a peace initiative as part of its endeavors to end the Yemeni crisis and put a limit to the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people, referring, at the same time, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's right in defending its territories, citizens and residents of the systematic attacks by the Houthi militia against civilian objects and vital oil facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which do not only target national capabilities but also the core of the global economy and its supplies as well as the global energy security and international water corridors.*The Speaker of Shura Council also noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is going on with its endeavors to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and support the Yemeni economy, where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered the biggest donor country through offering several initiatives that cover humanitarian, medical and development aspects through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and UN organizations, where the total volume of assistance offered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the past few years exceeded USD 19 billion.*The Shura Council's Speaker also reiterated that the Palestinian Cause is considered the core of Arab and Middle East issue, where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with the international community, seeks to support all procedures that can enhance the international peace and security and believes in the importance of dialogue and calls for political and peaceful solutions, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has offered several initiative since 1981, where the Arab peace initiative included pillars for a comprehensive and just solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict in a way that guarantees that the brotherly Palestinian people would receive their legitimate rights, mainly the establishment of an independent state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
