Speaker of the Shura Council participates in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in St. Petersburg

The delegation of the Shura Council, chaired by His Excellency the Speaker of the Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, will participate in the 107th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which begins Saturday in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the title "Promoting Multiculturalism and Peace through Interfaith and Ethnic Dialogue".

The Speaker of the Shura Council affirmed that the delegation will review the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, in the field of promoting cultural and religious pluralism and peaceful co-existence among the followers of religions and different cultures being the direction to which all Muslims throughout the world turn in prayer and the incubator of the two Holy Mosques.

He pointed out that the establishment of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Center for Dialogue among Religions and Cultures in Vienna comes within the context of the Kingdom's keenness to support the foundations of peace and understanding among all peoples through dialogue and the creation of effective mechanisms through this center, pointing out that the concept of coexistence is not limited to the intellectual and doctrinal aspects, but transcends to the consensus on the common visions to address the political, economic and security issues with a global perspective imposed by the supreme interests of the countries and peoples of the world.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh said that the Shura Council delegation will participate in the coordination meetings of the Arab and Islamic groups in the Inter-Parliamentary Union to coordinate positions on the issues that will be discussed and consider the urgent issues that need to be addressed in the discussions of the session.

It will be mentioned that the work of this session will choose one of the competitors Gabriela Cuevas Barron of Mexico or Yvonne Pasada of Uruguay for the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was founded in 1889, and includes the membership of more than 171 parliaments from different continents of the world and work through its Executive Committee and four standing committees are the Committee on Peace and Security, the Commission on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade, the Commission on Democracy and Human Rights and the Committee on United Nations Affairs.
